Halftone Dots.
Rebuild the picture from a grid of printed dots.
Drag to compare. Left: the original clip. Right: the same clip through raster.field, rendered by the app.
What does it do?
Raster Field redraws your video as a screen of dots whose size follows the brightness, like a newspaper photo or a halftone print. Shape, cell size, angle and ink colours are adjustable. This demo uses the default settings: dark ink on paper.
Creative ideas
- A newspaper or comic look for a whole clip.
- Big cells for a graphic, poster-like shot.
- Pair it with Risograph for a printed-zine feel.
How to use it
- Open the Effects tab.
- In the left rail, under VIDEO FX, click raster.field.
- Choose the shape and cell size in the inspector.
Level: easy. Undo anything with ⌘Z.
Example preset
- raster.field — default settings
The exact settings of the demo above. Save yours with presets › save in the inspector.
Render notes
Encoded at 960 px; at small sizes the dot grid can shimmer. Rendered on demo footage: a hooded face, close.
Rendered by @@ennuienoir (headless export) from a single shot of our demo footage, encoded for the web: H.264, no sound.
