Distortion & Glitch · Motion & Time · medium DatamoshLet the picture melt into its own movement, like a broken video file. Distortion & Glitch · easy RGB ShiftPull the colors apart for glowing edges and a doubled, glitchy look. Distortion & Glitch · easy Pixel SortingSort bright or dark areas into long streaks of pixels. Retro & Digital · Texture & Print · easy DitheringRebuild the image with a few colors and tiny dot patterns. Texture & Print · Color & Film · easy Film GrainAdd moving film grain to clean digital footage. Motion & Time · easy Frame EchoLeave fading copies of earlier frames behind moving things. Motion & Time · Distortion & Glitch · medium Time DisplacementShow different parts of the picture at different moments in time. Texture & Print · easy RisographPrint your video in 2 to 4 flat inks with halftone dots. Texture & Print · easy XeroxTurn your video into a high-contrast photocopy. Color & Film · medium Film LooksGrade your colors and add cinema details like halation and vignette. Motion & Time · Distortion & Glitch · easy FeedbackFeed the picture back into itself until it trails, spirals and blooms. Motion & Time · Distortion & Glitch · medium Optical FlowBend the image along its own motion, like liquid pushed by movement. Texture & Print · Retro & Digital · easy Halftone DotsRebuild the picture from a grid of printed dots. Motion & Time · Distortion & Glitch · easy Card StackDeal copies of the frame into a shuffling stack of cards. Texture & Print · Retro & Digital · easy Edge MapKeep only the contours: neon lines, drawings or a displacement source. Texture & Print · easy Emboss ReliefPress the picture into paper or metal, lit from one side. Texture & Print · medium Ink BleedLet the dark areas spread like wet ink with ragged edges and drips. Distortion & Glitch · medium Mesh CorruptWarp the image on a triangle mesh until it shatters into shards. Motion & Time · easy Motion EchoGhost trails, strobe, long exposure or feedback from what moves. Retro & Digital · easy Phosphor DisplayShow the video on a CRT, LCD or monitor mask with scanlines and glow. Retro & Digital · easy Pixel MosaicPixelate the picture into cells, from fine to huge blocks. Texture & Print · Distortion & Glitch · medium Reaction DiffusionGrow organic Gray-Scott patterns seeded by the video. Distortion & Glitch · easy Recursive PortalAn infinite tunnel of the image inside itself. Distortion & Glitch · medium Recursive TileSplit the frame into recursive rectangles that zoom, rotate and shift. Motion & Time · medium Slit-ScanCurved bands of time: each band shows a different moment. Color & Film · Distortion & Glitch · medium Spectral SlicesSplit the light into slices by luminance, RGB or position. Distortion & Glitch · medium Superpixel CollapseBreak the image into regions that implode towards a point. Retro & Digital · easy Tactical VisionNight vision, simulated thermal or tactical mono, with an optional HUD. Motion & Time · easy Temporal CollagePaste fragments of the clip taken from different moments. Texture & Print · medium Texture MosaicRebuild the image from procedural patterns. Distortion & Glitch · medium Voronoi FractureCrack the picture into glass shards that explode and rebuild.

Creative recipes

Effects combined into a look — rendered with exactly these effects.

Digital Decay

Split the colors, then let the picture melt into its own motion.

RGB Shift + Datamosh

  1. Add rgb.shift and pull red and blue apart.
  2. Add data.mosh after it.
  3. Raise the mosh amount until the picture starts to flow.

Try: Only split the colors on the beat (audio-reactive). · Keep the datamosh short, right at a cut.

Rough Print

A photocopy with spreading ink and grain.

Xerox + Film Grain

  1. Add xerox and set the level.
  2. Add ink.bleed after it.
  3. In the Color tab, turn on film grain.

Try: Use risograph instead of xerox for color. · More ink spread for a wet look.
